Lib Dems split on benefits freeze.

Could this be the issue that ignites war at the Lib Dem conference in Brighton next week?

That's the question on my mind today.

If reports in today's papers are true then the government is about to impose a two year benefits freeze to save the DWP £10 billion and Nick Clegg is backing it.

However, it creating uproar in his party.

Simon Hughes has already spoken out this afternoon saying that "the gap between the have and have not's needs closing" and that "the very rich should pay considerably more." Another MP said to be against such a move is Portsmouth South MP Mike Hancock.

For it seems as our Mike is being kept in the dark about all this.

His spokesperson earlier said that as far as he was aware benefits would be rising in line with inflation for the next two years.

I don't think so Mike!

And all of this news comes on the same day as a poll shows that a record 66% of people who voted Lib Dem in 2010 are now dissatisfied with Nick Clegg.

Couldn't happen to a nicer chap!
