Cash before services.

I have absolutely every sympathy with Virgin boss Sir Richard Branson after his train company lost its West Coast main line franchise to First Group.

We live in a world where we are supposed to learn from our mistakes yet try telling that to The Department for Transport.

At a time when our economy is barely growing thanks to the mess left behind by Labour how on earth do the Department for Transport think anyone can deliver sustained growth at an average of five per cent per year for fifteen years is beyond me.

These Whitehall mandarins must live in cloud cuckoo land.

Yet again money has been put before service and it is both the taxpayer and the passengers who will ultimately pay the price.
